Permanent jewelry is meant to be lived in — worn through showers, workouts, oceans, and everything in between. Choosing the right metal is a personal decision shaped by skin sensitivity, lifestyle, and budget. Here's what to know about the three we offer.
Heirloom
14k Gold (Solid)
Solid gold alloyed for strength. Warm, luminous, and made to be handed down.
Properties
- 58.5% pure gold alloyed with silver, copper, and zinc for durability
- Hypoallergenic for most skin types — safe for sensitive skin
- Naturally tarnish-resistant; will not fade, chip, or wear away
- Holds its color and weight for generations
Wear & Care
- Shower, swim, sweat, sleep — everyday wear encouraged
- Safe in fresh water, ocean, and most hot tubs (rinse afterward)
- The gold standard for permanent jewelry meant to last a lifetime
Everyday Luxury
14k Gold Filled
A thick, bonded layer of 14k gold over a jeweler's brass core — the beauty of gold at a more accessible price.
Properties
- A pressure-bonded layer of 14k gold fused to a jeweler's brass core
- Legally required to be at least 5% gold by weight — roughly 100× thicker than standard gold plating
- Wears like solid gold for years of daily use without fading
- Generally hypoallergenic; suitable for most skin types
Wear & Care
- Shower, wash hands, sweat, sleep — all welcome
- Rinse in fresh water after swimming in chlorinated pools or the ocean
- Avoid prolonged submersion in harsh chemicals (bleach, hot-tub chlorine)
Cool & Classic
Sterling Silver (.925)
Bright, timeless, and beautifully polished — with a soft patina that can be brought back to shine.
Properties
- 92.5% pure silver alloyed with copper for strength
- Cool, mirror-bright tone that pairs beautifully with white gold and platinum
- Naturally develops a soft patina over time — a mark of authenticity
- Hypoallergenic for most; polishes back to a full shine easily
Wear & Care
- Wear daily — the natural oils on your skin help keep it bright
- Remove before swimming in chlorine or hot springs when possible
- A polishing cloth restores its shine in seconds
Your Oro & Alma piece is designed to be worn without worry. A few small habits will keep it looking its best for years.
Shower, wash your hands, and swim in fresh water without hesitation. After ocean or chlorinated pools, give your piece a gentle rinse in fresh water and pat dry.
Apply perfume, lotion, sunscreen, and hairspray before your jewelry goes on — not after. Skip bleach, hot-tub chlorine, and cleaning solvents when you can.
Pat dry with a soft cloth after water exposure. For pieces you occasionally remove, store separately in a soft pouch or lined box to prevent scratching.
A soft jeweler's polishing cloth restores shine on all three metals. Skip abrasive cleaners and toothpaste — they can dull finishes and thin gold-filled layers over time.
